Raised by deaf parents with sign language as her first language, she was drawn anew to the potential of expressing oneself through the hands when she entered university. Through research into visual-bodily language and collaborations with people of diverse physicalities, she is exploring the potential of the senses as a medium. In recent years, she has developed games and projects that explore methods of translating language and sensation, including the sensory exploration card game “Qua|ia” (2018) in collaboration with LOUD AIR, and the tactile communication games “LINKAGE” and “Tatchimatchi” (2019) as part of the collaboration between Hayato Tabata and magnet, based on tactile sign language. As part of the collective Signed, alongside artist Mai Nagumo and programmer Hideyuki Kodama, he conducts experiments researching and expressing visual body language, as well as holding workshops in art museums. She is currently a PhD candidate in Politecnico di Milano and a researcher at the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, University of Tokyo. She qualified as a sign language interpreter in 2016. 2017–2018: ICC Intercommunication Center, emergencies!033 “tacit crelole”.
